U13 Blue Season Start Recap
Welcome U13 Blue players, parents and fans to the weekly weekend roundup!  As a staff we are going to try to keep the players’ stats updated along with a weekend writeup to summarize all the excitement.  This SCP U13 Blue squad has showed up since the start of the season with their game faces on and have not let up with each test and challenge.

The season opened up on home ice, welcoming the Lakeshore Lightning White squad in an exhibition game that resulted in a hard fought of victory 2 – 0 resulting in a shutout for our goalie with great defense with goals scored by Blair Davis and Elle Brinacombe.
Our second game of the season was a back-and-forth battle going on the road to visit Essex Orange for our first regular season game.  Sophie Gobbo worked hard every shift and finally had her hard work paying off scoring the lone goal for SCP Blue The even matched teams went stride for stride and shot for shot resulting in a 1 -1 tie on the scoreboard with the shots on goal tied at 12-12.
The weekend of Oct 14th and 15th brought the first 2 game weekend to the season with both games being vitally important towards our regular season standings. Saturday night brought the SCP Blue squad into the Windsor South Recreation Complex to meet the SPFHA Tecumseh Tigercats (SPFHA Orange).  Once again this was a hard-fought battle with both goaltenders doing everything, they could to keep the puck from going across the line.  With a low shot total, barely going in our favour, 10 – 6, the game was fought with defense in mind. The team defense stepped up with a whole team effort killing off the first shorthanded game of the season, with Elle Brinacombe in the sin bin for a 2 min rest.  Sophie Gobbo and Harper Boudreau made the team’s work pay off on the scoresheet, which ended in a great 2 – 1 victory for us, with an unlucky bounce of the puck for Tecumseh due to great pressure by both Harper and Sophie which sealed the victory.  A big thanks to the two U11 callups for this game who definitely showed they could keep with the U13 ladies!!  The second game of the weekend had SCP Blue rolling up the highway and into Chatham. For some reason, every SCP team I have been a part of seems to bring great game energy into Chatham and this game didn’t stray from that.  From the puck drop SCP Blue went into action and kept the pressure up, which was made easier by the solid defense controlling the neutral zone and holding the offensive blue line. The game included a test of all aspects of this team’s strengths and even showed the coaching staff some new ones, having to kill off 2 penalties by the duo centers to Blair and Sophie.  The team powered through adversity and made some memories on the ice which included a FIRST EVER HOCKEY GOAL by Kaiah Dame. Kaiah showed she has been paying attention in her young hockey career and knew where to be, with a nice pass from the corner from Blair, Kaiah’s first shot was stopped, yet she fought for her own rebound and hit the back of the net.  Blair sunk 3 more for her first hattrick of the season. Sophie felt the best way to counter act her penalty was to get in on the action and got herself on the scoresheet with a goal. The game ended in a great 5 – 1 win with shots being 18- 8 in favour of SCP Blue.
Sunday October 22nd brought the The Chatham Kent Crush down to Harrow for an exhibition battle.  This game saw much better discipline by the Blue squad which resulted in a commanding offensive display.  The score may have only been 5 – 1 with the shots at 28 – 8 for SCP but the score could have easily been 10 – 1 if not for the play of the CK goalie (and our ability to hit the net).  Blair Davis opened the scoring early with some fancy puck work to avoid the CK defense and hit top corner with a great shot @ 8:19 of the 1st period.  After CK evened the scoring on a nice shot, Elle Brinacombe said enough is enough and decided to go end to end twice to get on the score sheet with back-to-back goals.  The second period started and ended with no new tallies on either side, and then at the 4:46 mark of the third period, Alexis Bondy-Renaud officially started her hockey points total with her FIRST EVER HOCKEY GOAL!!!!!  Once again Alexis’ effort over the entire game gave the feeling this was her night and she proved it by not giving up and being exactly where she needed to be.  While all of this was going on a determined centre named Sophie was beginning to get frustrated, because no matter how many shots, how many moves and how hard she skated the bounces were not going her way.  But she proved fate to be wrong and with only 2:42 remaining in the third, her determination paid off to get on the score sheet.   This game review cannot be complete without sending huge props to Olivia Versnel who after getting scored on early in the first period shut the door for every shot after, which were limited due to the shut down defense by the 3 D rotation of Elle Brinacombe, Everly Parisien and Charlotte Hill.
In total the SCP Blue team is 4-0-1 for all games, however regular season games we sit 2 – 0 – 1 sitting tied for second place in the standings with the Essex Thunder Orange team, each with 5 points. Up next is another 2-game weekend for SCP Blue with an away regular season game against Windsor Wildcats Sky Blue on Saturday night followed by an exhibition game vs our association rivals SCP Yellow. Make sure to bring out all the friends and family you can to cheer on these hard-working SCP Blue ladies.  GO BLUE!!!!!
