Harrow Peewees Take Silver Medal
Submitted By jgolden on Thu 01 18, 18
The South County Predators Harrow Peewee team sponsored by Harrow Home Hardware had a successful weekend at the Kyla Kowalik Tournament hosted by Wilmot Girls Hockey Association.  The Predators outscored their opponents in the tournament 12-2.

Our Predators’ first game was versus the Brantford Ice Cats.  Skylar Lecot opened the scoring in the 1st period assisted by Leah Brush and Teagan Marontate.  The 2nd period saw Leah Brush go “bar-down” with an assist to Skylar Lecot.  Abbey MacLeod added a goal, assisted by Jyllian Marontate.  In the 3rd period Ally Brady scored two goals, with assists going to Morgan Jenner and Teagan Marontate.  Leah brush finished the scoring with her 2nd goal of the game.  Rebecca Macfarlane recorded the shutout for a 6-0 Predator win.

Our Predators 2nd game was versus the Burlington Barracudas.  This was much tighter with no scoring in the 1st period.  In the 2nd period Teagan Marontate opened the scoring with an assist going to Leah Brush.  It was a 1-0 game until 3:52 left in the 3rd period when Teagan netted her 2nd goal assisted by Chloe Cole and Morgan Jenner.  Chloe added her own goal with 1:16 left in the game to seal the victory.  Chloe was not done being on the score sheet as she received a checking penalty just 10 seconds later.  (Good check, except we don’t play checking!)  The energy line of Genna Bacon, Sam Wright and Casey Golden were skating hard up and down the ice, fore check, back check, pay cheque!  Rebecca earned her 2nd shutout for a 3-0 Predator win.   This win guaranteed the Predators a bye to the semis!

Next up were the Mitchell Meteors.  The Meteors opened the scoring on a breakaway with 5:12 left in the 1st period to break Rebecca’s shutout streak.  With 2:13 left in the 1st period, Leah Brush had a breakaway and was stopped by the Meteor goalie only to have their own player knock it in the net, nice goal Leah!  Before the period was over Morgan Jenner would give the Predators a 2-1 lead, assisted by Teagan Marontate.  Then with just 1:35 left in the 3rd period Teagan added an insurance marker assisted by Skylar.  Final score Predators 3 – Meteors 1.

In the finals our Predators were against a tough host team Wilmot Wolverines which has gone undefeated in league play this season.  Wilmot had a great chance in the 1st period but Rebecca shut the door with a Mike Vernon-like diving paddle save.  The game remained scoreless until 3:29 left in the 2nd period when the Wolverines scored a goal.  The 3rd period, saw the teams exchange chances. Ava Stevenson had her chances, but couldn’t bury one.  With 1:30 left in the game, and the faceoff in the Wolverines’ end, our Predators used its timeout and sent out the girls to get the equalizer.  Although the puck was in the Wolverines’ zone the rest of the game, we were unable to get the puck across the goal line.  Final scored Wolverines 1 – Predators 0.  Our only teenager on the team, Captain Savannah Lecot had a great shutdown weekend on defense.

Congratulations girls on the silver medal.  Our Coaching staff of John Golden, Derek Marontate, Al MacLeod, Jenny Jenner and “Coach Cayla” Wood would like to thanks our parents and girls for an awesome weekend and we would recommend this tournament to others.
