CODE OF CONDUCT


SCPGHA Code of Conduct identifies a standard behavior which will foster reasonable behavior, enhance sportsmanship, and maintain an environment of respect. SCPGHA requires its players, parents, coaching staff & volunteers to meet the identified minimum standards of behavior.

These standards of behavior include:

• Members will have the responsibility to maintain and enhance participant’s dignity and self esteem.

• Members will respect the property of others.

• Members will not engage in activity or behaviors’ that endanger the safety of others.

• Members shall conduct themselves at all times in a fair and responsible manner.

• Members will have the responsibility to refrain from any behavior or comments that exhibits disrespect, harassment, abuse, bullying, cyber bullying, offensiveness, racism or malicious degradation. Such behaviors will not be tolerated.

• Members will not condone nor encourage violence, bad manners or offensive language on or off ice. Coaches are expected to discourage improper player language by means of immediate verbal reprimand followed in case of repeated or serious occurrences, by loss of shift or shift suspension for a period, or removal from the hockey game or practice. Continuous infractions will be brought to the Director and Board for decisions of suspensions. This is to be enforced from Novice through to Intermediate level.

• Members will refrain from the use of power or authority in an attempt to coerce another person to engage in inappropriate activities.

• Members will abstain from the non-medical use of drugs or the use of performance-enhancing drugs or methods.

• Members will abstain from the consumption of alcoholic beverages in a game or practice situation, or arriving inebriated in such a situation is grounds for discipline.

SCPGHA members shall at all times adhere to the policies and procedures and those of our governing body (OWHA), at all events, and activities. Members shall also abide by all rules, regulations and constitution of the league SCPGHA is enrolled in.
Failure to comply with this Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action, suspension or release of membership.



Code of Conduct- General Responsibilities


All individuals/members have a responsibility to demonstrate respect to ALL individuals regardless of racial origin, religion, sexual orientation, economic status, ability (or disability), gender or any physical characteristics.
Everyone should appropriately make comments or criticisms at the right time and place and avoid public criticism of athletes, coaches, officials, organizers, volunteers and members. All individuals need to consistently demonstrate the spirit of sportsmanship, leadership and ethical conduct. All members should ensure that the rules of girl’s hockey are adhered to. Everyone needs to act appropriately to correct unfair treatment, discrimination or unethical behavior.

All members shall refrain from behavior that constitutes harassment, including but not limited to:
• Written or verbal abuse
• Threats or outbursts
• Visual material which is offensive
• Unwelcome comments, taunts or innuendo
• Leering or obscene gestures
• Any behavior intended to undermine self-esteem
• Hazing of any kind
• Unwanted physical contact, flirtation or invitations
• Physical or sexual assault (including sexually offensive materials, comments)
• Behavior that creates a hostile or negative environment
• Retaliation or threat thereof for reporting harassment. This includes in person, media (social), chat rooms or blogs.

All members have a responsibility to refrain from the use of power as a weapon. We shall adhere to rules of responsible alcoholic consumption in adult oriented situations, trying to avoid reckless consumption in a setting with minors.

Everyone shall respect the property of others and not willfully cause damage.

All members need to respect and understand that cell phones, cameras or tables are not permitted in the changing rooms.

All members need to abstain from the non-medical use of drugs or the use of performance-enhancing drugs or methods.

All members of SCPGHA shall adhere to all Federal, Provincial, Municipal or host country laws.



Code of Conduct- Parents/Guardians/Spectator Responsibilities

In addition to the general responsibilities, parents/guardians/spectator additional responsibilities include:

  • To always encourage our athletes to play by the rules and to resolve conflicts without violence

  • To condemn any form of violence

  • To never ridicule a participant for making a mistake

  • To provide positive comments to motivate and encourage our athletes

  • To respect decisions made by referees and encourage others to do the same

  • To not question an officials judgment or honesty

  • To support efforts to not have verbal or physical abuse or intimidation in the game of hockey

  • To show respect and appreciation to all participants, coaches, officials and volunteers who give their time

  • To refrain from the use of bad language, harassment or threat of any kind to any coaches, officials or any other participants

  • To not force your child to play the game of hockey

  • To remember that your child is playing to have fun

  • To teach your child that it is just as important to have fun, learn skills and make friends as it is to win.

  • To offer your child praise to raise their self-esteem.
