Team Staff Requirements – 2025/2026 Season

The Ontario Women’s Hockey Association (OWHA) sets the rules for who can be on a team’s staff. These rules are here to keep players safe, supported, and having fun.

Rostered Team Staff includes:

  • Coach

  • Assistant Coach

  • Trainer

  • Den Mom (Team Manager)

If you are in, or planning on being in, one of these roles, please review the requirements below.


All Rostered Staff Must:

  • Complete Respect in Sport – Activity Leaders and the Gender Expression & Identity Course.

  • Be registered with OWHA (RAMP Registration) and complete Rowan’s Law Review & Acknowledgement (completed during RAMP registration). This is the same login that you used to register your daughter to SCP. Click on the Coach/Staff Registration. On-ice volunteers and Den Moms should choose "Staff".

  • If you are 18 or older, you must complete a Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS/VSC) and Declaration through Screening Portal. (Click here for more information on VSC and Screening Portal)

  • Be at least 16 years old (including Trainers).

  • Be at least two (2) years older than the oldest player on the team (except Senior teams).

  • Each team must have one insured female staff member on the roster.

  • Each team must have two Dressing Room Monitors (DEN MOMS) (who must also complete Respect in Sport, Gender Identity & Expression, and screening).

  • Any Third-Party Instructors must also be rostered and screened.


Coaches & Assistant Coaches

  • Must meet all of the above general requirements.

  • Lead the team on and off the ice.


Trainers

  • Must meet all general requirements.

  • Must be a certified Trainer (HTCP Level 1).

  • Responsible for player health and safety, including injury response.


Den Mom (Team Manager)

  • Must meet all general requirements.

  • Helps with dressing room supervision, team communication, and event coordination.
