A letter to every Hockey Mom , Happy Mothers Day
Dear Mom,

It’s another early weekend morning in January and the sun is starting to rise. The temperature inside the rink isn’t that much different than what it is outside as we make our way through the slush and snow to the arena doors. Coffee in hand, you sit bundled up in the stands waiting for my team to hit the ice.
I see you smiling at me as I skate by in warmups and am reminded again of all the time you’ve put into letting me play hockey. I remember years ago when I first started playing hockey and all I wanted to do was get to the rink. I had just come home from school but my excitement to head right out the door again was all I could think about.  Before that, you always made sure my stomach was full so that I had enough energy so I could play at my best. This, of course, after you yourself had come from a busy day at work, you still wouldn’t let that stop me from playing. It started from when you would help me tie my skates for my first lessons, again taking time out of your day to drive me back and forth. I’m sure it was frustrating to see me fall over and over again but getting up and finally finishing helped build my confidence in my abilities. I’ve found the sport that I love and made new friends along the way. Hockey has given me a lot but it’s just a small part of everything that you’ve given to me. When I had a bad game, you were always there to lift my spirits. You were with me to celebrate the highs and bring me up from my lows. I want you to know that hockey has made me a better person and taught me valuable lessons about friendship, sportsmanship, working hard and giving back to my community. I hope that one day I can share these experiences with my children as well. The smile that's on my face when I'm on the ice is a constant reminder of the happiness that hockey brings to me. And I couldn't have done it without you.
