November 12/13 Weekend Recap
The South County Predators Team Blue had 2 games this past weekend.  The first was an away game, for points in the league standings, against a new opponent in the Tecumseh Tigercat's.

Entering the game in 3rd place in the points standing, the SCP team was looking to gain some ground.   Tecumseh started out fast and Team Blue was not prepared, falling behind less than a minute into the game when Tecumseh put the puck in the net.  Although it took some time for the SCP team to gain their legs, they slowly chipped away at their opponent.   With 2 minutes to go in the period SCP finally got on the board when Brihana Glass scored her first goal of her hockey career after a hard battle in front of the net.  It was an unassisted goal that tied the game at 1-1.   The remainder of the game was all Predators.  The forwards were hard on the puck in the corners and the defense held the blue line to keep the pressure on Tecumseh and their goaltender.   The second period saw Blair Davis score with a great shot on a breakaway, and Robyn Humber score after a nice move around a defender in the offensive zone.   Assists on Humber's goal went to Reese Baillargeon and Sophie Gobbo. The 3rd period goals were a repeat of the 2nd, with Blair Davis scoring on another breakaway and Robyn Humber scoring the final goal of the game, assisted once again by her linemate Reese Baillargeon, and Emmie Poirier.  The Predators outshout their opponent by a whopping 31-11.  Final score SCP Team Blue 5 Tecumseh Tigercats 1.

On Sunday evening SCP had an exhibition game with a familiar opponent, the Lakeshore Lighting Black team.  Having played each other just 7 days earlier, both teams were aware of the task at hand.   This game played out as you might expect as they were familiar with what each would be bringing to the table.   The game was evenly matched throughout with end to end action and many scoring opportunities for both teams.  Lakeshore scored the lone goal of the first period to go up 1-0.   In the second period, Harper Boudreau scored her 2nd of the campaign with a nice shot from the hash marks.   Five minutes later, Emmie Poirier raced a defender for the puck from the red line in, winning the battle and putting a one timer into the net to put her team up 2-1.   But the Lakeshore team didn't flinch and they stormed back and tied it at 2 less than a minute later.  Going into the final period tied at 2 a piece, you could anticipate the excitement the period would be bring.   Lakeshore scored the first goal of the period, followed by Emmie Poirier with her second of the game, assisted by Alyssa Middleton.   With a few minutes to go, Sophie Gobbo received a pass up the seam from Robyn Humber and sped off, passing the defenders, and beating the goaltender low to the short side.  With the Predators now up 4-3 and with only 3:36 left in the game the Lakeshore team was not discouraged and came after their opponent, controlling the puck in the offensive zone and creating scoring chances.  The Predators broke down and had difficulty getting the puck out of their zone.   The Lakeshore team was rewarded when they were able to sneak the puck just inside the post with only 8 seconds remaining in the period.   Congratulations to the hard effort shown by the Lakeshore Team Black.   Final score SCP 4 Lakeshore Black 4.

One can hope that this South County Predators Team Blue can take this game as a lesson learned and why you need to play until the final buzzer.  This is going to be very important in their upcoming Tournament.   Specifically since they will be playing this same opponent, Lakeshore Black, in their opening game of the tournament on Friday night.

It should be an exciting weekend of hockey at the Lakeshore Lightning 6th annual at the ATC Arena.  See you there!
